State Verbs are not used with the Progressive:I like your T-shirt.
State Verbs describe:
states of mind, such as thoughts, feelings and senses:I think it's a good idea.
possesion:This flask belongs to Hugo.
qualities and characteristics:This liquid has a purple colour.
There are of course other State Verbs. A good dictionary will tell you if a verb can't be used with the Progressive (or the continuous).
State verbs can be used with serial situations:
